Major Turnaround Exercises With 7th Chords

In this course we will learn the major turnaround in all 12 keys using 7th chords. We will cover two positions for the chords, and explore a variety of rhythms to use for comping and playing lead sheets. This progression is essential to master for jazz and pop songs.

In this course, you’ll learn an original jazz ballad tune called, Why Do I Fall in Love.

We’ll go phrase by phrase to learn all the notes and chords. Then we’ll incorporate right hand harmonies, two left hand approaches, and various soloing techniques.

By the end, you’ll be able to perform this piece with expression, and you’ll discover how to incorporate these techniques into other jazz ballads.

The Girl From Ipanema – Accompaniment

In this course, you will learn how to create a beautiful bossa nova accompaniment to “The Girl From Ipanema,” by Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Jonny teaches the A section of the song for all playing levels, progressively adding more syncopated rhythms to the accompaniment. Yannick explores the B section of the song and expands on the groove and musical concepts involved.

To a Wild Rose

In this course, we’ll be learning and deconstructing an elegant classical piece, To a Wild Rose.

First, we’ll go phrase by phrase and learn the notes, rhythms, and theory. Then we’ll explore the dynamics, articulations, and emotional associations of the piece.

Autumn Leaves – Jazz Swing 1

In our most comprehensive jazz swing piano course, Jonny will walk you step-by-step on how to play the classic tune Autumn Leaves in a beautiful jazz swing style.

We’ll start with memorizing the lead sheet melody & chords. Then we’ll expand the left hand chords with shells & guide tones, and apply 4 common jazz rhythms. In total, we cover 26 exercises that help you make sense of how to use the 9, 11, and 13, and their alterations.

Piano Chord Alterations

Making sense of chord extensions and alterations can be confusing when you’re first getting started. In this course, Jonny simplifies the concept by teaching the most common chord alterations used in jazz and popular music.
