In this workshop, you will learn the most important piano scale for improvising over any musical style – the Major Blues Scale!

We’ll start with 3 left hand accompaniment options including chord shells, guide tones, and rootless voicings. Jonny will you teach you his best techniques for improvising, including 3 harmonized grips, 2 gospel connectors, 8th notes, triplets, slides, turns, rolls, and other line building tips. We’ll dive further into the scale by learning the fingering for both hands in all 12 keys.

In the end, you’ll be able to improvise with this scale over blues, swing, bossa nova, and jazz ballads!

Amazing Grace Piano Hymn – Slow Gospel Blues 2

In this workshop, Jonny takes you step-by-step through the traditional Amazing Grace piano hymn and teaches you how to transform it into the Slow Gospel Blues style.

Starting with the basic piano lead sheet, you’ll discover how to color the chords for a jazzier sound, add a gospel groove in the left hand, and embellish the melody with slides, tremolos & harmonies. You’ll also learn a stock gospel intro and outro you can use on various gospel tunes along with some tasty improv techniques you can use over the gospel scale.

In the end, you’ll be able to apply these same gospel blues piano techniques to any hymn!

In this workshop, Jonny will break down a notated jazz solo to show you exactly how jazz pianists construct a solo. You will analyze the scales, rhythms, approach tones, embellishments, and left hand bass techniques.

This course provides the high-level overview of how to connect all the techniques when soloing through a real-life example. You’ll also see how to build the energy of a performance using range, texture, and rhythmic values.

In this workshop, Jonny breaks down a notated jazz solo to teach you exactly how jazz pianists construct a solo. You will analyze the scales, rhythms, approach tones, embellishments, and left hand bass techniques used to create engaging melodic solos.
