In this course, we'll learn how to play the iconic jazz swing standard - All The Things You Are. Starting with the lead sheet, we’ll memorize the melody/chords, embellish the melody with rhythmic accompaniment, learn a jazz swing bass line, and master a variety of improv techniques.
Transform the Amazing Grace piano hymn into the Slow Gospel Blues style. Starting with the lead sheet, we’ll add a left hand gospel groove, right hand embellishments, a stock gospel intro, and discuss how to improvise a solo.
We will analyze the Prelude in C Major by J.S. Bach. Going phrase by phrase, we will label the chords and their harmonic functions to understand how the music works, while exploring devices such as “sequencing” and “pedal point."
