In this workshop, we’ll analyze the chord progression for Autumn Leaves.

Starting with the lead sheet, we’ll memorize the melody/chords. Next we’ll learn how to figure out the parent key of any song using the diatonic chords. Then we’ll spend time analyzing the chord functions and chord qualities. Finally, we’ll discover how to add color to any chord progression with the 2-5-1 trick.

By the end of this workshop, you will have a deeper understanding in general of why we use certain chords in jazz tunes.

Wow…what a eye opening workshop
Great job with this workshop. I consider myself late beginner on something’s and less so on jazz specific stuff, but this was so informative and really expanded my understanding of the jazz foundational structure.
Easy To Understand
This is such a great introduction to jazz analysis, particularly to secondary dominants and 2-5-1 patterns. I took music theory in college and wish my professors had explained things this clearly. I might have loved theory more back then!
Cool and informative
Loved the course. I'm a pro classical pianist so knew a lot about chord structures, but this was so helpful seeing it from Johnny's perspective. And the tip about learning the melody first, adding the bass plus basic chords is great. Classicals should do that too!
Unlocking Jazz
Great course to help with recognising the repeating patterns in jazz. I believe this will aid in memorising standards.
Unlocks another level in understanding jazz!
