I wrote the following review on Jonny's site after completing the course Gospel soul: "Amazing powerful sound. Easier to play than I thought when hearing for first time. Fat and subtle chords. This is for me Gospel (and piano) at their best. Very nice to get some tips on dynamics. Beautiful application of the 1-3-6-4 progression in section B!"

I wish I had had this course when I first started (70 years ago). It puts the emphasis on the most important aspects; have fun, be consistent in your practice, don't be too hard on yourself.

I wrote the following review on Jonny's site after completing one of his courses but am embarrassed to say I don't remember which one. The point is that the entire site is AMAZING, as is his cheerful, encouraging style of teaching. As a former teacher myself I really appreciate how he chunks everything down because otherwise you could easily be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of material and learning tracks. There's not a style he doesn't cover, and he always reinforces theory with immediate practice--but not with something that sounds lame. Even though I took piano lessons all through school and could play Beethoven sonatas, etc., I missed so much in my education that he covers; I decided to start right at the beginner courses and work my way through even though I can sight read classical pieces well--that's how much I never learned about chord progressions or other styles or improvisation! Anyway, here was my course review: This helped me so much with learning some great grooves and recognizing popular songs with this chord progression. For the first time I felt like there was hope for me to sit down at the piano with no music and do something that sounded good!

Re-learning the G scale was fun with Jonny. I enjoyed practicing the diatonic chords and the simple chord progression. Learning how to play the lullaby was terrific. The inversions taught by Yannick was superb. I practiced these years ago, but with no feeling. Now, I am re-learning them with ease because of the instructor's guidance and patience. Even though I am learning via video, I can sense both Jonny's and Yannick's desire to help me progress. I love their energy and encouragement!!!! Thanks guys! Good course!!

Piano With Johnny is truly a dream come true for anyone wanting to improve their piano playing. If you follow the lessons and practice consistently, you’ll see real transformation in your playing. I recently completed the Ballad Course, and it’s packed with incredible techniques and musical insights. Johnny does an outstanding job explaining each concept in a way that’s clear, practical, and easy to apply. I found myself suddenly able to play ideas and stylistic elements I’ve heard for years but never knew how to achieve. His teaching style makes complex ideas feel natural and accessible, and the progress you make feels both exciting and rewarding.

Jonny is an encourager, and it makes my heart glow to hear him teach. I love how clear and easy it is to understand everything--I'm an adult who had piano lessons cut short as a teen, and was never able to learn more, but self-taught. Now that I've completed the first course, I feel like learning music is not only going to be a breeze but a sunny day as well. Thank you so much.

My comments after studying major chords." well that was fun.I hadn't touched the piano for over a decade and thought this would be good revision. It was much more than that, bringing my understanding of the structure around chords and chord progressions to a whole new level".

I'm so grateful for the step by step, digestible approach. Life changing! I wish I had Jonny as a teacher when I was a kid. (probably rough on the ego to study from a toddler though). I have always been thrown into the deep end of the pool - " here are the changes, here are all the scales you could use, now solo! " Coming from a classical foundation, that's really defeating. Thank you! I'm so glad I joined!

I recently wrote this in one of the courses I completed: "I love the way everything builds on the next step, the fun way to feel challenged, as well as license to make it my own. Thank you!"

I just joined the platform a week or two ago, and Johnny suggested we try this month's challenge during the new member meeting. I'm not particularly interested in holiday music, but this arrangement is really fun - and putting it to a song I already know makes it easier to focus on the new concepts.

As always PwJ breaks it all down into small pieces which allows you to focus on each piece one at a time and when you’re ready you put it all together, just don’t get impatient and jump ahead before you are ready.

My main hurdle has been getting to grips with the system but you have been patient in providing guidance. I am now beginning to look at learning in a totally different way and it is really exciting.

I’ve really enjoyed the Quartal Voicings in particular and John Proulx’s approach. The voicings are so rich and the theory is reviewed while playing the arranged tunes. It is also fun to play along with the instructors 🙌🎶🎹

Thank you so much, Jonny - you always groove like crazy, and I really appreciate how well you teach. You make it so easy to understand. I remember being so impressed when I heard you play at Disneyland many years ago. I couldn’t believe how this young kid could play so well, and in so many styles, and sound so musically mature and play with such total mastery. My ears were captivated, and now that I’ve retired, I can finally spend time to take your courses. Thanks for all the great lessons! (And for crying out loud, you still look like a kid - how do you do that?)

This is my review on the course of Diminished & Half Diminished Chords. "Feel like skipping? Don't! Because the nature of this course is in some ways repetitive, you may be tempted to skip a lesson because it would be similar to the previous one. And, yes, it is similar. BUT... Jonny always offers different patterns and perspectives and insights that may not necessarily be in the other lessons. Some of the options he offers are extremely advanced but if you want to be the best player you can be, you may wish to incorporate those into your practice. I started using different accompaniment rhythms on my keyboard (instead of the metronome) to keep it entertaining and fresh."

Thanks for the recent Summertime instruction. The overall course was very easy to follow and rewarding to put the hands together. The solo part was very clear and useful for the future. Many thanks Ron Crause

I’ve just finished the ‘Improvise Jazz Piano with the Dominant Diminished Scale’. Wow what a course! The first 2 are some of my favourite things as well Jonny (dogs and coffee!) and the 3rd (diminished scales) will hopefully soon become one of my favourite things too!! Really enjoyed this course and hoping to nail those diminished scales too in my soloing! Thanks as always for this superb content.
