Do you want to get a smooth sound at your piano?

You know, that warm, “buttery” sort of sound where all the notes and rhythms just feel perfectly blended.

Well, it can be a hard sound to get because pianos often sound bright and a little jarring.

On top of this, most students don’t understand that to get warm, buttery sounds, they can’t use the traditional chords that they were taught.

“Buttery piano” calls for a different set of harmonies, embellishments, and rhythms.

One pianist who does an extremely good job of capturing this sound is Joshua Domfeh.

He’s a modern gospel pianist, and when I heard him play “How Deep Is Your Love”, I couldn’t believe how smooth it was!

He had all the elements of smooth, buttery piano. The right keyboard sound. The right chords. The right fills. The right rhythms.

I want to show you his improvisation because it holds the keys to how this sound is created.

Amazingly, what you’ll discover is that Joshua uses just three simple techniques to achieve this sound.

And when you finish the video, you’ll realize how simple it is to start using these techniques right now, in your own piano playing.

The profound truth about videos like Joshua’s is that he isn’t doing anything “new”.

He’s using block chords… those came from George Shearing in the 1950’s.

He’s using slip notes… Floyd Cramer was also using those in the 50’s.

And his passing chords – many of those come straight out of a Chopin nocturne.

The “genius” of guys like Joshua is how they assemble the pieces of the past in their own way.

Learn the fundamentals, and you will have true piano freedom.
