Over the Rainbow by John Proulx
I enjoy John Proulx’s conversational tone, as though he were in the same room with the student. I understand the theory, but I like his way of reviewing the scales/modes without sounding condescending. The piece is challenging without being out of reach nor too difficult technically. His solo ideas are always creative and beautiful.
A beautiful arrangement
I think of this song as a rather simple melody. However, the final arrangement here in Week 4 is over the top amazing. This is exactly the type of jazz ballad arranging that I was looking for when I joined the PwJ program. The chord alterations and the bonus solo provide a rewarding and complex sound that I am enjoying every time I play this piece. Thank you, John.
Very nice
John covers everything I needed to review and improve, as well as learn for the first time. Short of a real time instructor, this course was paced as good as an online course can be. Looking forward to taking it again once I work on the piece more. I know there was more in there than I could absorb in one run through.
